ANCHORAGE, AK – Today, in a move welcomed by millions of Americans, Alaskan communities, and admirers of the most prolific wild salmon fishery in the world, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) denied the application for the key permit for the proposed Pebble mine. The Corps had said the mine would cause significant degradation and significant adverse effects to the waters and fisheries of the Bristol Bay region.

ANCHORAGE, AK: Anglers, hunters and Bristol Bay business owners call into question a Compensatory Mitigation Plan for the proposed Pebble mine submitted today by Northern Dynasty Minerals, the sole investor in the Pebble Limited Partnership. The plan was required by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) after it concluded the company’s permit application failed to meet basic environmental and safety regulations earlier this summer.

ANCHORAGE, AK – Today, during a speech at the Alaska Federation of Natives convention, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski stated that she believes the Pebble mine is the wrong mine in the wrong place, cannot be permitted as currently proposed, and promised to take steps through the Appropriations process to ensure upfront protections are put in place for the Bristol Bay region.
