Lawmakers come together across party lines to safeguard Bristol Bay.
Trout Unlimited extends our deepest gratitude to Representative John Curtis (R-UT) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) for signing on as the first bipartisan co-sponsors of the Bristol Bay Protection Act (H.R. 8193).
Introduced by Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK) in May 2024, this bill would permanently shield Bristol Bay from the proposed Pebble Mine. This legislation represents the culmination of two decades of collaborative efforts by numerous partners dedicated to safeguarding the fishery.
Other co-sponsors of the bill include Reps. Jared Huffman (D-CA), Eleanor Norton (D-DC), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Kim Schrier (D-WA), and Chellie Pingree (D-ME). By coming together across state and party lines, these lawmakers are expanding the legacy of bipartisan advocacy to safeguard Bristol Bay and the world’s most prolific sockeye salmon fishery.
On behalf of salmon advocates across the country, we thank Rep. Peltola and all co-sponsors of the Bristol Bay Protection Act for their leadership and support in defending this iconic region of Alaska.
