At the beginning of 2020, Trout Unlimited in Alaska launched the Save Bristol Bay Guide Ambassador program to connect hunting, fishing and bear-viewing guides who work and live in the region with resources to help fight the proposed Pebble mine in a critical, decision-making year.

Meet the 2021 Save Bristol Bay Guide Ambassadors.

This year, 70 hunting and fishing guides from across southwest Alaska have joined the Guide Ambassador program and Trout Unlimited’s new chapter of work in Bristol Bay: advancing permanent protections for the people, fish, and fish-based resources of the region.

Prior to the guide season, Ambassadors work with Trout Unlimited staff to get the lay of the land, that is, what the conservation priorities are, and what they can do to help spread the word and organize action for Bristol Bay as they lead visitors on trips through one of the most wild and remote landscapes in America. Trout Unlimited staff communicate with Ambassadors throughout the season to keep them apprised with latest developments so that information can be disseminated to guests, clients and others working in the sportfishing and hunting industry. Ambassadors are asked to share photos, local insight, and their voice writing op-eds, speaking on social media, and through the connections they make guiding in Bristol Bay.
