Last week, nearly 40 sport fishing and recreation businesses from the Bristol Bay region sent a letter to Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy asking him to halt his actions that support the Pebble Limited Partnership (PLP) and efforts to revive the proposed Pebble mine.

On January 8th, 2021, the State of Alaska announced that they would be filing an appeal to the Army Corps of Engineers’ November 2020 decision to deny the key federal permit for Pebble. The letter sent from business owners to the Governor last week reiterates the longstanding opposition that sportfishing, hunting and recreation businesses in Alaska have held against the mine, as well as previous communication from local operators to the Governor urging him to stop his support for the foreign mining company over Alaskans.
With Pebble’s key federal permit denied, the people of Bristol Bay and regional economies are looking forward to permanent protections for the region so they plan for a sustainable future in southwest Alaska. Join Alaskans by asking your elected officials to support durable protections for the fish, people, and industries of Bristol Bay.
The business owners with a stake in the healthy resources in Bristol Bay made a clear ask of the Governor:
Throughout the permit review process, Alaskans have clearly opposed Governor Dunleavy’s repeated support for the Pebble Limited Partnership, and called on him to join Bristol Bay residents and Alaskans statewide in advancing permanent protections for the region.
If you live in Alaska, please contact Governor Dunleavy (907- 465-3500) to remind him that he must end his support for a disgraced, foreign mining company and join Alaskans in advancing permanent protections for the Bristol Bay region today. If you live outside of Alaska, please contact your elected officials and ask them to support permanent protections for Bristol Bay.
